Maibritt Marjunardóttir

Maibritt Marjunardóttir (b. 1988) is a Faroese artist and designer, trained in Textile Design at Kolding School of Design and Fashion Design at The Royal Danish Academy. Her work is rooted in Faroese knitting traditions, exploring themes of material and emotional sustainability, nostalgia, and belonging. Her aesthetic is dark and somber, drawing comparisons to Faroese artists Tita Vinter and Elinborg Lützen, while also questioning how traditions can evolve.

Marjunardóttir’s work has been exhibited at the Faroese National Museum of Art, and her MA project, “Fucking Jävla Kuk-Kinship,” won the Danish Crafters and Designers Award in 2022. She’s also collaborated with several Faroese artists, creating stage wear for Eivør, Hamferð, and the film/performance "Jørð." Future projects include a collaboration with Irish designer Caoimhe Dowling, focusing on sustainable clothing production and cultural heritage.

In both her art and design, Marjunardóttir explores how time and devotion generate value and how emotions can be embedded in materials. Her piece “Anhedonia” embodies emotional states through knitted VHS tapes, representing a search for pleasure. The work invites the viewer into a dark, tactile experience, blending the symbolic with the material.

"Anhedonia" is the fourth work in Marjunardóttir's exploration of VHS tapes as material salvation. Previous pieces have included “Tað, tú leggur eftir tær,” “INNANOPIN//SJÁLVSMYND,” and “Mørk Materia.” “Anhedonia” is created within its space, accompanied by a soundscape developed with Heðin Ziska Davidsen.
