Tordis Vang
Tordis Vang (1988) is an artist and photographer from the Faroe Islands. She has worked sporadically as a professional photographer and artist for the last 16 years, since she studied photography in Copenhagen.
Tordis's visual expression ranges from realistic to abstract.
Her areas of expertise within a commercial context consist of architectural, industrial, lifestyle, and portrait photography, as well as graphic design. As she departs from commercial and enters the realm of abstraction, her process begins with capturing fragments of reality through her lens, but it is in the act of deconstruction and reconstruction she composes her unique abstract expression.
With a chosen collection of images, she delves into the depths of her subconscious, piecing together fragments of imagery to form abstract compositions.
With a desire to capture the small details which caught her eye, her fascination with both photography and abstraction began at the age of 5, as she got her hands on her first camera. She immediately started constructing miniature installations with candle wax, soap bubbles and various light sources as motifs to photograph. Since then, she has honed her craft, pushing the boundaries of photography to explore the interplay of light, shadow, texture and form in increasingly experimental ways.
Through her exploration of abstraction and quest for the sublime, she invites the viewer to escape the confines of realism and indulge in the infinite possibilities of visual compositions, along with the inner workings of the human psyche.
